Our story takes flight
We might be a business with local roots, but we have serious global ambition. Taking off from Dubai in 1985, we began our passenger and cargo operations with just two aircraft travelling to Mumbai and Karachi. Our strategic location within the Middle East enabled us to quickly become the epicentre for global trade.

With over three decades of experience under our belt, we have since expanded our business to offer a fleet size of over 270 wide-bodied aircraft, 11 of those being dedicated freighters. Our ongoing commitment to innovation has allowed us to continuously increase our cargo capacity and develop specialised products that meet the growing needs of our customers.
1985
Emirates commences passenger and cargo operations from Dubai International Airport. Mumbai and Karachi are the first destinations, connected by an Airbus A300 and a Boeing 737-300.
1992
Emirates’ network grows to over 25 destinations across the Middle East, Europe and Southeast Asia.
1998
Emirates SkyCargo carries over 200,000 tonnes of cargo during the year, with 40% year-on-year growth in its first 13 years.
2005
Emirates SkyCargo introduces SkyChain for advanced cargo management.
2006
Emirates SkyCargo carries over
1 million tonnes of cargo during the financial year. The Emirates network now connects over 87 destinations in 57 countries. The airline’s fleet also included four dedicated freighters.
2008
Emirates SkyCargo’s state-of-the-art, 43,600m2 Cargo Mega Terminal, opens in Dubai.
2009
Emirates SkyCargo introduces the Boeing 777 Freighter aircraft to its fleet. A world first, e-freight is introduced, with the first paperless flight between Mauritius and Dubai.
2014
Emirates SkyCargo transports over 2.3 million tonnes of cargo across 147 destinations in 6 continents.
2015
Emirates celebrates 30 years of operations. Emirates SkyCentral DWC, the carrier’s state-of-the-art cargo terminal dedicated to freighter aircraft cargo, is officially inaugurated.
2016
Emirates SkyCargo opens its purpose-built EU GDP-certified facility at Dubai International Airport. The carrier also launches Emirates Pharma, a specialised service for the transport of temperature-sensitive pharmaceuticals.
2017
Emirates SkyCargo launches more industry-specific services including Emirates Fresh and Emirates Wheels. A rose decal installed on a freighter aircraft marks the brand's contribution to global trade and the horticultural industry.
2018
Emirates SkyCargo moves around 500 horses across 19 charter flights for the FEI World Equestrian Games™. This is the largest equine charter project undertaken for a sporting event.
2019
Emirates SkyCargo launches its first e-commerce delivery platform: Emirates Delivers.
2020
In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Emirates SkyCargo launches the COVID-19 Vaccine Global Distribution Hub.
2021
Emirates SkyCargo marks 1 year of utilising Emirates Boeing 777 passenger aircraft for cargo-only operations to facilitate the transport of essential goods during the COVID-19 pandemic.
2022
Emirates SkyCargo upgrades its customers to a seamless booking experience with WebCargo
