Since opening its doors to the world in 2008, our new Cargo Mega Terminal, built on a 43,600 square metre site, has increased our ground-handling capacity by 1.2 million tonnes per year, and has the capability to handle all types of cargo from one central location. The new addition increases our global hub throughput capacity to 1.6 million tons a year.

At the Cargo Mega Terminal, the accelerated retrieval of consignments through the automated handling systems and real-time tracking of cargo assures increased productivity. Fully integrated computer systems link airlines, customs and freight forwarding agencies, so that consignments can be traced and retrieved in minutes, while dedicated facilities for courier shipments and express cargo provide fast-track, priority channels.

The same meticulous planning extends to the Cargo Mega Terminal's special handling facilities. For instance, live animals are accommodated in noise protected areas with temperatures regulated to suit their individual needs. And independently controlled, special storage zones meet the critical requirements of temperature-sensitive medicines and perishable goods.

Emirates SkyCargo has a dedicated team based at the Cargo Mega Terminal which is comprehensively trained in the cargo handling needs of a wide range of products. Authorities including Dubai Customs, Dubai Municipality, Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Information, State Security Department, Dubai Police, CID, the Department of Civil Aviation and the UAE Ministry of Agriculture & Fisheries are conveniently located in the same building, allowing for speedy export acceptance and import delivery.

In essence, the Cargo Mega Terminal ensures the shortest acceptance, delivery and transit times of any major international airport, with urgent inbound consignments cleared within 120 minutes of arrival, outbound acceptances up to just 120 minutes prior to departure and outbound transfers possible in less than 120 minutes.
