DUBAI, UAE, 12th November 2009 – Emirates Group Security recently hosted 11 aviation professionals from the Nigerian presidential fleet for a three-day Aviation Security Training (AVSEC) course in Dubai.
 
Organised by CAE and supported by the Emirates Group, the specially tailored session – held at the Emirates Aviation College, Dubai – is part  of the attachment programme for the team in Dubai.
 
Speaking on behalf of the Nigerian delegation, Captain Adams Madaki said, “In three days we have been provided with a good overview of the emerging threats against civil aviation and appreciated the importance of striking the right balance to facilitate business. It is indeed a good and professionally run course.”
 
The specially tailored course covered the following areas:

Legal Framework and Introduction to  Aviation Security
Threats & Risks to Civil Aviation
Bomb Threat Handling
Protection of Parked Aircraft
Disruptive Passenger Handling
Crime Prevention
Crew /Inflight Security
Dealing with Hijack
Defence Tactics (self-defence)
 
The participants received certificates from the Centre for Aviation and Security Studies (a department of Emirates Group Security) and Edith Cowan University of Western Australia.
 
Commenting on this inaugural programme, Dr. Abdulla Al Hashimi, Divisional Senior Vice President Emirates Group and CEO of Transguard Group, said, “The    training programme is among a few in world that is recognised and backed up by a university. It is our pleasure to extend this security training and education programme to the Group.  We look forward to similar collaborations in the near future.” 
 
The Centre of Aviation Security Studies (CASS)  has been actively involved in aviation security training.  Among the upcoming security courses organised by CASS are:
