Emirates SkyCargo wins ‘Overall Carrier of the Year’ accolade at Payload Asia Awards for the fourth consecutive year

HONG KONG, 4 October 2016: Emirates SkyCargo, the freight division of Emirates, continues to strengthen its position as a leader in the international air cargo industry by winning the industry choice award for ‘Overall Carrier of the Year’ at the Payload Asia Awards Ceremony held on 29 September 2016 in Hong Kong. Emirates SkyCargo has won this prestigious award for the fourth year running.

The award was accepted by Ravishankar Mirle, Emirates Vice President of Far East and Australasia, Cargo, at a gala dinner at the Hong Kong SkyCity Marriott Hotel. Organised annually in conjunction with the Payload Asia Conference, Payload Asia awards recognise excellence in the global air cargo industry. The industry choice award for the Overall Carrier of the Year was determined by a senior level industry panel of 17 judges drawn from across the global air cargo industry who assessed nominees on a number of criteria including operational performance, customer service, product innovations and network coverage.

Emirates SkyCargo is the largest international airline cargo operator with a fleet of over 245 wide bodied aircraft, including 15 dedicated freighters- 13 Boeing 777-Fs and two B747-400ERFs. The carrier connects cargo customers in 154 destinations across 82 countries in six continents through its hub in Dubai.

In addition to offering cargo capacity on board its passenger flights, Emirates SkyCargo operates freighter services to over 50 global destinations. In June 2016 Emirates SkyCargo launched a new freighter route from Hong Kong to Delhi onwards to Dubai strengthening its footprint in East Asia and the Indian subcontinent.

With a strong focus on customer service, Emirates SkyCargo leads the air cargo industry with its state of the art infrastructure and innovative product and service offerings.

Emirates SkyPharma, the carrier’s new purpose-built GDP* certified facility at Dubai International Airport (DXB) dedicated to the timely and secure transport of pharmaceutical shipments was officially inaugurated earlier in September 2016. Together with the facilities for pharmaceutical products at its freighter hub at Dubai World Central (DWC), Emirates SkyCargo operates the first and largest GDP certified multi-airport hub in the world. 

Some of the innovative protection products in Emirates SkyCargo’s portfolio for temperature sensitive cargo include White Cover Advanced- a specialised cover that acts as a barrier against varying external temperatures and direct sunlight, White Container- a temperature controlled container with thermal insulators to counteract high external temperatures and the Emirates SkyCargo Cool Dolly- a special piece of equipment that transports cargo from the aircraft to cool storage areas, while maintaining temperatures of as a low as -20°C.

The latest industry recognition for Emirates SkyCargo comes on the back of other awards won by the carrier in 2016 including the ‘Diamond Award’ at the Air Cargo Excellence Awards 2016 in Berlin, the ‘Best Cargo Airline Middle East 2016’ at the World Air Cargo Awards in London and the ‘Best Air Cargo Carrier- Middle East’ at the 2016 Asian Freight, Logistics and Supply Chain (AFLAS) Awards held in Shanghai.
